Malan Breton used New York Fashion Week to mark the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.

The designer presented his Spring/Summer 2027 collection, Le Jardin des Mille Demains, translated as Garden of a Thousand Tomorrows, at Sony Hall in New York. The collection brought together womenswear and menswear in a presentation that looked backward at Breton’s creative influences while pointing toward his next chapter in Rome.

The timing gave the collection an added sense of significance. After more than three decades working across fashion and other creative disciplines, including film, television, theater and music, Breton is set to continue his work from Rome following the New York presentation.

The evening began with a cinematic introduction to the collection. A short film directed by Breton and shot in London, where he studied tailoring, established the collection’s central theme. The film was nominated for two awards from the London Fashion Film Festival and was created around an idea of renewal: that each passing second can offer an opportunity to begin again.

A King Seiko timepiece played a central role in the film, reinforcing the collection’s focus on time, transition and new beginnings.

That sense of reflection continued onto the runway, where Breton revisited elements of the creative world that have informed his work throughout his career. The presentation also featured several performers and models who have previously appeared in the designer’s shows, including Carmit Bachar, Jessica Sutta of The Pussycat Dolls, Peppermint and actress Mimi Tao.

The casting offered a connection between Breton’s past runway presentations and this latest collection, while the presence of performers from music, television and fashion reflected the multidisciplinary nature of his work.

The show concluded with a live performance by house music artist Crystal Waters, adding a distinctly celebratory finale to an evening positioned as both a farewell to New York and a transition toward what comes next.

Breton’s career has been shaped by a combination of British tailoring and couture traditions. According to the house, he began his training with a Savile Row tailor before continuing his studies in couture, an education that helped establish the balance of structured tailoring and more sculptural elements that has become associated with his work.

His label, founded with roots in Taipei, has subsequently presented collections in cities including New York, London, Paris and Milan, while expanding beyond conventional fashion into costume design, uniforms, fashion films and collaborations with entertainment and luxury brands.

The designer has also developed a particularly strong relationship with the entertainment industry. His designs have been worn by performers and actors including Emma Thompson, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Janelle Monáe, Billy Porter, Hannah Waddingham, Minnie Driver, Michael Bublé and Kylie Minogue, among others. His work has also appeared on red carpets and in editorial fashion photography.

For Spring/Summer 2027, however, the focus was less on a retrospective than on the idea of continuation. Le Jardin des Mille Demains positions the future not as a definitive destination but as a series of possibilities, an appropriate concept for a designer preparing to relocate his creative base.

With the New York show now behind him, Breton’s next chapter will unfold in Rome, bringing his work into another fashion capital with its own deep relationship to tailoring, couture and cinematic culture.

For a collection explicitly concerned with new beginnings, the setting of the finale may ultimately prove as significant as the clothes themselves. New York served as the backdrop for Breton’s farewell, while Rome becomes the setting for whatever comes next.
